Zee News beat Zee Sports by 2-1 to claim the winner’s trophy at the Essel Intra-Group Football Tournament 2006-07 in Noida on April 30. Both the teams have performed brilliantly through out the league matches to reach the finals.  

The teams beat the scorching heat to line up for the final match at the Noida Sports Stadium. The Zee News team began the attack in the early part of the first half. Success came at the ninth minute when Deependu Dey from Zee News scored the first goal of the match by a strong right footer. Though the Zee Sports team got their act together in their effort to equalise, Pradeep Singh of Zee News cut through the defence to score the second goal of the tournament. By the 14^th minute, Zee News was leading by two goals. 

With their renewed strategy, the Zee Sports team struck with the captain Saquib Siddiqui breaking the Zee News defence to score a come back goal. Zee Sports tried hard to attack, but Zee News worked hard to defend their lead.

Laxmi N Goel, Managing Director, Zee News Limited, lauded all the Essel teams for displaying their sportsmanship spirit throughout the tournament. He sought to organise more such team building exercises in the year to come.
