The Jury of the Essel Karnataka’s Best Police Officer Award has short-listed five awardees under various categories. They are: Gopal B Hosur (Best IPS Officer), M K Ganapathy (Best KSPS Officer), N Srinidhi (Best Police Inspector), Geetha C R (Best Lady Police Officer) and H C Gangadhar (Best Police Head Constable). Gopal B Hosur, Joint Commissioner, Crime, is considered to be one of the most courageous officers of the State. He was actively involved in the anti-Veerappan operations and has even narrowly escaped death. He is also credited with detecting several major crimes. M K Ganapathy, Superintendent of Police (Intelligence), was responsible for nabbing a notorious underworld don. He is known for efficient handling of communal riots in sensitive areas of Bangalore. He was also involved in the investigation of the fake stamp paper scam involving Kareem Telgi. He is one of the most honest officers of the State. N Srinidhi, Inspector In-charge, Frazer Town Police Station, is a courageous officer who was injured in anti-Naxal activities. He has been awarded the Gallantry Medal for gunning down a Naxalite. Geetha C R, Sub Inspector, Traffic Automation Centre, was amongst the first women police officers to be deputed on traffic duty. She proved her prowess at traffic management during her stint at the High Grounds Police Station, a node for VVIP movement. H C Gangadhar, Head Constable, High Grounds Traffic Junction, is known for his enforcement of traffic rules. He has come down heavily on traffic rules violation. The Jury has also decided to confer a special prize on Devidasan, who is posted in Police Control Room, for his exemplary service, dedication and sincerity towards his work.
