ICL Executive Board announced

May 15, 2007

The Chairman Subhash Chandra announced the Executive Board of the Indian Cricket League (ICL), which was launched in March 2007. The ICL Executive Board will have 5-6 members including Tony Greig, Dean Jones and Kiran More and will be headed by Kapil Dev.

“ICL, Cricket with killer instinct - is proud to announce its official executive board comprising some of the biggest names in the game who bring along a wealth of experience and expertise’,” the Chairman stated. “The game should be run by the people who have played it at the highest level and hence the choice of the members,” he added.

The Executive Board will have the final say in all matters of the league and will be responsible for running it. It will adopt an approach similar to standard corporate procedure in which key responsibilities will be outlined to all members. The responsibilities include formation of the six teams comprising the league, selecting talent from within the country that will play in the ICL, laying out the playing conditions and formulating the rulebook, preparation of the grounds and pitches and finally creating innovations that will revolutionise the game.

India’s World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev said, “It gives me great pleasure to lead the executive board of Indian Cricket League - India’s first professional cricket league. I will try and utilise my experience of motivating and guiding players both as captain and as coach to take the young talent to the pinnacle of success. The format, the playing conditions and most importantly the mindset of the players will be our focus.”

Former English captain Tony Greig commented, “Cricket has now come a full 360 degrees and India is now ripe and ready for a professional cricket league. This will be the platform where youngsters from all corners of India will play alongside the superstars of international cricket, learn the tricks of the trade from them and gain confidence to excel.”

Australian Batsman Dean Jones said, “The concept of ICL just bowled me over. Time and again we as cricketers have said that the game must be run by those who have played it at the highest levels and ICL has come to establish that.”
