Ishwar Daitota emerged as the people's choice for the Essel Karnataka's Best Media Award, having received the highest number of tele-votes. Daitota received the Award from Justice R. Ramakrishna, retired Judge, Karnataka High Court.
The other winners were: Vishweshwar Bhat, Chief Editor, Vijaya Karnataka, (Newspaper Journalism); K.S. Sachidananda Murthy, Resident Editor, The Week and Malayala Manorama, New Delhi (Magazine Journalism); R.P. Venkatesha Murthy, Editor, Janata Madhyama, Hassan (District Journalism) and K. Gopinathan, Chief Photographer, The Hindu (Photo Journalism).
Dr K. E. Eapen, Retired Professor, Department of Communication and Journalism, Bangalore University was awarded in recognition of his contribution to Journalism education.
Prominent among those present were eminent writer Sa Shi Marulaiah, Additional Director General of Police K.V.R. Tagore, Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority Mukhyamantri Chandru, a large number of junior and senior journalists and professors of communication.
“The ceremony was a nostalgic trip for many retired editors, while the achievements of the winners served as an example for budding journalists,” Dr M. Gautham Machaiah of Essel Group said.
An enthralling performance by well known flutist Praveen Godkindi marked the event. Boman Moradian of Essel Group and Zee Kannada Business Head Anup Chandrashekaran were also present.
