Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of UK, a newly registered charity in the UK, is part of Ekal Vidyalaya movement of India which is dedicated to eradicating the curse of illiteracy among the rural and tribal children who are often marginalised. It is committed to giving underprivileged rural and tribal children the chance that they have a right to and works towards making their dreams a reality.
For its first fundraiser, Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of UK organised 'Cricket for A Cause'. Four teams: Oracle, Alliance 11, Kenton 11 and Media 11 participated in the tournament. The venue for the tournament was one of the most prestigious locations in the heart of London - Regents Park. It was a 20/20 style tournament where each team played with the other three teams and the top two teams - Oracle and Kenton 11 with highest points went on to play the final. The Final had a nail biting finish with Oracle clinching the match by a narrow margin of 3 runs. The event raised £4500 for the Ekal cause.
Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of UK would like to thank all the participating teams and the team of volunteers who came together for a cause and made this event a success.
Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of UK was formed with the aim of raising funds and creating awareness in the UK of the work that the Ekal Vidyalaya movement in India is doing. Currently Ekal runs over 52000 schools and reaches out to 1.5 million rural children and plans to double the number in the next five years. Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of UK is honoured to be part of this journey.
