Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007 had a special guest on the sets – none other than the inimitable Union Railway Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav! With him around, it was undoubtedly non-stop entertainment for all.
Prior to arriving in Mumbai, Laloo had expressed that the contestants be dressed in traditional clothes. And so it was – Bhojpuri was the order of the day as the girls wore lehnga-cholis while the boys donned their kurta-pyjama. Some of the contestants also chewed paan even as Bhojpuri songs filled the air. The sets too were done up with artificial trees, goats and fodder.
When the contest began, Pakistan's Amanat Ali surprised all by singing the Bhojpuri number Kashi heele Mathura heele…tohri lachke jab kamriya. Laloo asked him how difficult it was for a Pakistani contestant to sing a Bhojpuri song? Amanat replied, “For a singer, language should never be a barrier. Versatility is essential.”
Laloo got nostalgic when Kolkata's Aneek Dhar sang his favorite track - Sa ra ra ra ra, dekho holi aaye re. Laloo revealed that he used to sing this song during his college days.
While all contestants chipped in with impressive performances, Laluji was delighted to meet Chattishgarh's Sumedha Karmahe. He called Sumedha as 'Bihar ki Beti'. But the gorgeous singer was quick to point out that Chattisgarh was a part of Madhya Pradesh!
A lot of fun and frolic followed on the sets. Tune into Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007 on Saturday night to catch Lalooji in action.
