Jeena yahaan, marna yahaan, iske siva jaana kahaan…a philosophy with a dash of namkeeniyat drove the very being of our beloved Sharmaji. Battling the infamous mentality of Log kya kahenge, Sharmaji brings a heart-warming slice of life to the table as he sets out to pursue his one true passion. Like the title, Sharmaji Namkeen, produced by Excel Entertainment pvt ltd in association with MacGuffin Pictures is deliciously savoury, taking us through an avalanche of emotions while leaving our taste buds tingling. Not only do we witness the Late Rishi Kapoor sahab relish his love for food but this film also stands as a mark of remembrance, love and respect to Bollywood's cherished Chintuji. As &pictures presents blockbuster films every Saturday under their property Saturday Premiere Party, this week, the channel brings to you the khatta, meetha and full-on namkeen Sharmaji with the World Television Premiere of Sharmaji Namkeen on 30th July on 8 pm.
Rendered with love, Sharmaji Namkeen is a historic film where we see two legends playing one great character. After Rishi Kapoor's untimely/ shocking passing, Paresh Rawal took over the titular role in the film - a rarity in Indian cinema. Brij Gopal Sharma — played by both Kapoor and Rawal interchangeably across the film – the film manages to showcases pleasant jugalbandi between the two stalwarts.
Talking about the film, Paresh Rawal said, “The film is a living legacy of Chintuji. Sharmaji was meant to be played by him, it was a film made for him. I just stepped in so we could finish his last piece of work. The only challenge was to make the visual transition smoother for the viewers and not take away from Chintuji's charm. My job wasn't to imbibe his characteristics but to emote according to the situation on screen. Rishi Ji was one of my favourite co-stars and filling in for this film was like my own humble tribute to him.”
The film, after 13 years, has brought Juhi Chawla and Rishi Kapoor together on screen and they do not disappoint! Adding to this chemistry, we see some fantastic camaraderie between Kapoor and Satish Kaushik. Portraying the everyday father-son relationship, we have Suhail Nayyar and Taaruk Raina along with remarkable performances by Sharmaji's kitty party gang Sheeba Chaddha, Sulagna Panigrahi and Suparna Marwah.
Talking about the Film Juhi Chawla said, “When you go to the cinema, it's not because a film deals with a particular subject. It's for the experience. And Rishiji always gave you an experience! That being said, the film brings out the personalities of both Rishiji as well as Pareshji – both impeccable actors. Pareshji took the reins like no one ever could. When I entered the industry, I looked up to Rishi Ji as an actor; after all he was a natural. I always learnt something whenever I was around him. I envied the way he used to ease into the character so flawlessly. I tear up every time I think about how this film is his last theatrical release and now the last premiere with the World Television Premiere on &pictures. Nonetheless, we will always be grateful that I got to work with him one last time”
Sharmaji Namkeen is an endearing story of an ordinary man and his extraordinary pursuit to a new meaning in life post retirement. A whirlwind of emotions is let out when Sharmaji dil se chases his passion for cooking against his son's wishes. With all the drama, he manages to keep his pursuit alive and active with the help of a kitty party group. Family drama at its best, Sharmaji Namkeen renders a wholesome recipe to live life king size!
Immerse into the rangeen world of Sharmaji with the World Television Premiere of Sharmaji Namkeen on 30th July at 8pm only on &pictures.
