Director of Mumbai FC, Sanjay Das, is a happy man. The community service initiative of the Essel Group to popularise football and identify budding talent has met with immense success.
The initiative attracted teams from hundreds of schools and Mohallas from across Mumbai. No other tournament in the past has seen 1,000 teams participating in one tournament. At each of 16 venues, talent scouts went about identifying promising players. The identified players will be considered for further training, some abroad. Some players will play for Mumbai FC both in Indian and foreign tournaments.
All the wining teams at the Zonal level took home a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each and attractive trophies, while the runner-up teams were awarded Rs 10,000.
