Narasimha Bhandari, a rural entrepreneur, was voted as Karnataka's Best Entrepreneur/ Innovator from among five awardees short listed by an eminent Jury. He received the Award from Justice R Ramakrishna, former Judge, Karnataka High Court on August 24.

Bhandari's arecanut de-husking machine has come as a boon to thousands of farmers across the State.

The other winners were Captain G R Gopinath, Managing Director, Deccan Aviation; Dr Ashwin Mahesh, CEO, Mapunity Information Services (P) Ltd; Chaya Umesh Chandra, Designer and Managing Director, Candle Craft World and B Basavaraj Santeshivara, Rural Innovator.

The Award ceremony was attended by families of the winners, socialites, college students, retired judges and members of various trade bodies.

"The Essel Group and Zee Network have rightly pointed out that we Indians blindly ape the West, disregarding our own rich culture. When I was a student, the only aim of the youth was to migrate to the US, but I decided to stay back and contribute to the country," Captain Gopinath said.

Urging the youth to play a major role in building the country, he said, "Unfortunately all of us are content with merely complaining without doing anything about the day-to-day problems that we face."

A scintillating dance performance by Abhinava Dance troupe of Nirupama Rajendra enthralled the audience.
