Students test the waters during the Advance Anchoring Workshop at ZIMA Noida

It was mike, camera, action at the virtual studio of Zee News for the participants of the Advance Anchoring Workshop at ZMCL in Noida. The participants tested the unknown waters of Anchoring by writing their anchor pieces and presenting them before the camera. Their performance was recorded in a live environment.


Mr. Sachin Arora, senior anchor of Zee News, conducted the workshop which was organised by Zee Institute of Media Arts (ZIMA) on Sunday, April 2, 2017. Mr. Arora is one of the prominent faces of Zee News and can be seen moderating discussions on topical issues and presenting special programmes. As a broadcast journalist and anchor, he has carved out a distinguished space for himself in the eyes of viewers.
The Advance Anchoring Workshop covered the various dimensions of TV anchoring. The participants were given a live experience of a TV news channel working through mock exercises. Their anchor pieces were recorded and analysed so as to tell each individual the areas where improvement was required. This session was conducted by Dr. Ambrish Saxena, Academic Head of ZIMA and ZICA, and Ms. Deepa Zutshi, senior faculty at ZIMA. Ms. Lakhvinder Kaur, Counsellor at ZIMA, coordinated the session.


More than 20 participants from 8 institutes of Delhi, Haryana, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh benefitted from this workshop. Many participants felt elated since they had already attended the Basic Anchoring Workshop on the last Sunday at ZIMA. The students studying at ZIMA Noida were also part of this workshop.


The institutions represented in the workshop included Invertis University, Bareilly, IMS Ghaziabad, Academy of Business and Engineering Sciences, Ghaziabad, Amity University Gurgaon, K R Mangalam University, Sohna, Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Management Studies, Delhi, and College of Commerce, Patna.


The Advance Anchoring Workshop was the eighth workshop in the series of one-day skill oriented workshops organised at Noida during February, March and April. Such workshops are part of ZIMA's endeavour of conducting workshops for the skill-enhancement of budding media professionals.


In February itself, ZIMA organised four workshops. The first in the series was Video Production Workshop, conducted by Dr. Vikrant Kishore, Filmmaker and academic from RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia, on February 14, 2017. The second workshop on Documentary Filmmaking was conducted by Mr. Aditya Seth, a renowned documentary filmmaker from Mumbai, on February 19, 2017. The third workshop on Script Writing (News) was conducted by Ms. Alokananda Sen Awasthi, a senior broadcast journalist on February 24; and the fourth one was on Script Writing (Film) conducted by Mr. Subhash Chaturvedi, senior scriptwriter from Mumbai, on  February 25, 2017.


In March, the first workshop was on TV News Reporting which was conducted by Ms. Alokananda Sen Awasthi on March 4, 2017. The was followed by Workshop on Acting  conducted by Mr. Vibhanshu Vaibhav, eminent writer, director and actor from Mumbai, on March 8, 2017. The third workshop of this month was on Basic Anchoring, conducted by Mr. Athar Saeed, senior broadcaster and anchor, on March 26, 2017.
At the end of the workshop, the students were given away certificates of participation and also engaged in a feedback session.
