Nov 15, 2017

ZEE Americas was proud to be a part of Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation USA's long awaited 'The Future Of India' gala on Saturday, November 4th, at the majestic Cipriani on Wall Street in New York City. The honorable Dr. Subhash Chandra was the Guest Of Honor where the response for this highly anticipated event was simply overwhelming, not only in terms of capacity-attendance, but also Donor enthusiasm to support Ekal's worthy cause. Over $2 Million was raised in empowering rural India through education, health, and women empowerment.

During the evening, Dr Subhash Chandra, who is also the Chairman of Ekal-Global was recognized for his contributions and work with Ekal India, along with Mr. Bajrang Bagra, Mr. Laxmi Goel, and Mr. Naresh Jain. Dr. Subhash Chandra who was also one of the key-note speakers of the evening, generously donated $250,000 towards the Ekal cause, along with a few others like Mr. Sant Singh Chatwal. During his speech he praised Mr. Mohan Wanchoo (Chairman, Founder of EC Infosystems) and Mr. Chirag Patel (CO-CEO & Chairman of Amneal Pharmaceuticals) for putting up the magnificent fund-raising show and challenging the economically blessed group of people to shoulder responsibility of those in need. Lauding the generosity of big donors, he further elaborated that numerous small donors were equally important as they had larger stake in building any Nation by their sheer number.

Ms. Mitzi Perdue, the heiress to 'Sheraton Hotel chain' and 'Perdue Poultry Farms', was also one of the key- note speakers of the evening along with Dr. Subhash Chandra. Ms. Perdue regaled the audience with three heartwarming stories about Ekal that also reflected the importance of education for better achievements in life. Speeches by the key-note speakers enthused the audiences highly and the live mission-based auction for raising funds had a jump start with the pledging process reaching one million mark within the first 15 minutes.

The evening started with the salutation to the American and Indian flags with national anthems on the big screen. The evening was interspersed with cultural Indian dances and other performances. Welcoming the guests, Mr. Mohan Wanchoo (CEO and Chairman EC Infosystems), briefed the gathering about Ekal's multi-dimensional approach to uplift rural and tribal areas of India through emphasis on literacy, healthcare, integrated village development and empowerment of village folks. Ekal currently has 58,000 schools, spread all over India supporting 1.5 Million children - more than half of which were girls.

It was a grand success of an evening, and Zee Americas is proud to be an integral part of the Ekal Vidyalaya venture.
