We at Zee live by the motto, Extraordinary Together. Zee Studios' film Anandi Gopal has proved to be an excellent example of the motto, achieving a never before feat in the film & entertainment space. The film is an extraordinary story of an ordinary couple. It depicts how Anandibai fought against all societal & cultural odds to become India's first Women doctor in 1886! The film not only became a box office success but also made a massive social impact that will leave a legacy, beyond the film's life.
The film released in February 2019, and immediately struck a chord with audience across the world. One such impacted audience was Dr. S. B. Mujumdar (Founder & Chancellor, Symbiosis University)
the film's impact on him was so deep, that he decided to establish Maharashtra's First Medical college dedicated to girl students. With this inspiration on 1st February 2021, the college inducted the first batch of 150 students with the film's cast & crew as special guests. In his own word Dr. Mujumdar says, “When I watched Anandi Gopal, I was inspired by Anandibai's grit, courage, perseverance and the fight against all societal odds. Anandibai's unparalleled struggle to become a doctor moved me so much that I decided to do something in this field & this is the genesis of the idea for Symbiosis Medical College for Women”.
In honour of Dr. Anandibai Joshi five meritorious girls would be awarded special 'Anandi Gopal Scholarships' every year. At the induction of each batch Anandi Gopal will be screened as an inspiration to girl students.
In the list of films which inspired and made a difference in society, Anandi Gopal will always shine at the top and it will keep inspiring the generations to come.
