Zee Talkies first movie, Natarang is based on a novel by Anand Yadav. It is the story of Guna, a farm worker from a backward community, who is an amateur wrestler with ultimate dreams of playing the King in the traditional Marathi folk art Tamasha.  It is the story of his triumph against all odds. The story also has a subtext that deals with sexual politics prevailing in society worldwide.

The lead actor of the movie is National Award winning actor Atul Kulkarni. Atul has movies like Hey Ram, Page 3, Chandni Bar and Rang de Basanti to his credit. An interesting fact about Kulkarniís role is that in the first half of the film he gains 15 kilograms of weight while he loses 17 kilograms in a span of 40 days in the film's second half.

Natarang is directed by debutant director Ravi Jadhav, who is a successful creative director of a large multinational advertising agency.  During his agency days, Jadhav has worked with clients such as ITC Foods, Amul, Tata Indicom, TCS and ZEE Network. He has won several awards and accolades for his creativity.

Till date no Marathi movie has been promoted at the shooting stage itself, whether nationally or globally, as part of its marketing strategy. By starting early promotions Natarang will set a new bench mark in the marketing of Marathi films.
