Zee Tamil has made inroads into the competitive Malaysian landscape by announcing its launch on Astro, the largest pay TV platform. Tamil content is already in high demand in the territory catering to the 2 million Tamil speaking population. Currently the demand is met by 8 Tamil Indian channels and 3 Astro homegrown Tamil channels that have a mix of locally produced and curated content.
Zee Tamil, with its clutter breaking content is set to make a mark in this mature market. It has a healthy mix of progressive, modern fiction and innovative non-fiction programming.
Astro is the largest pay TV platform in Malaysia. Of the total 3.8 mn Pay TV subscribers, Astro has 95% share across DTH and IPTV platforms. It announced launch of a new "Samrat Pack" for Zee Tamil alongwith one other channel.
"The launch has come at a strategic time for us from an expansion point of view. With Astro's dominating reach and our trendsetting content, we are looking at a high growth trajectory for the channel." said Harish Goyal, CEO APAC & Africa, at the launch press conference in Kuala Lampur.
