Zee News Ltd (ZNL) has recorded standalone second quarter revenue of Rs 776 million, representing a 44 per cent growth over the corresponding quarter last fiscal. The operating profit for the quarter stood at Rs 105 million. The profit before tax for the quarter ending September 30, 2007, was Rs 91 million while the net profit was Rs 57 million.
“Zee News has strengthened its position in the market during Q2 FY08. Advertising revenues have grown by 57 per cent while subscription revenue improved by nine per cent during the quarter,” said the Chairman Subhash Chandra.
Laxmi Narain Goel, managing Director, ZNL, stated, “Zee Marathi and Zee Bangla have given a sterling performance during the quarter. Zee Marathi has maintained its numero uno position in the Marathi genre while the Bengali news channel 24 Ghanta has shown a huge GRP increase and is leading in the Bangla news genre. Zee News has maintained its ratings in the face of stiff competition in the Hindi news genre.”
“The existing businesses have shown consistency in performance and revenues of existing businesses have grown by 42 per cent. The new businesses have also performed well registering a growth of 80 per cent during the second quarter. The operating margins on our existing businesses has also increased from 30 per cent during Q2FY07 to 33 per cent in Q2FY08,” he added.
